#PomeroyWBB Falls Short at Wilberforce

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team fell to Wilberforce on Tuesday night, 84-79, to move to 7-15 on the year.

Senior Ja'Breena Gardner led the Pomeroys in scoring with 24 points, while senior Na-Shaunda Rayford scored 18 points and junior Tara Parmer contributed 11 points. Gardner also dished out a team-high seven assists and recorded six steals.

Tuesday's game came down to the fourth quarter with the Pomeroys falling just short of capturing the road win. SMWC trailed by two, 27-25, after the first quarter and then made up the difference by outscoring WU in the second quarter by two, 18-16. With the score tied at halftime, the second half was a fresh start and SMWC went point for point with WU in the third to head into the fourth quarter tied up at 58. In the fourth, it was WU that got the upper hand by outscoring SMWC 26-21 in the final 10 minutes of play.

The Pomeroys will be back in action on February 11 when they host Robert Morris – Peoria at 2 p.m. in Hamilton Arena.
