SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — Indiana University East used a strong second quarter and a late push to pull away from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, as the Pomeroys fell 78–50 Saturday afternoon inside the Knoerle Center.
SMWC trailed 40–19 at halftime after IU East opened the game on a 15–4 run and followed with a 25-point second quarter. The Pomeroys responded with their best stretch in the third quarter, outscoring the Red Wolves 21–18 to cut into the deficit, but IU East answered with a 20–10 fourth quarter to seal the road victory.
Abigail Parker led the Pomeroys with 17 points, knocking down four three-pointers to pace SMWC from the perimeter.
Talyssa Moody added 10 points, while
Elayni Stone contributed eight points and four assists.
Samara Douglas chipped in six points, four rebounds, and four assists, and
Haley Polston pulled down four boards off the bench.
SMWC shot 32.7 percent from the field and 27.6 percent from three-point range, while IU East finished at 44.1 percent overall and 45.8 percent from beyond the arc. The Red Wolves were led by Peyton Wells, who poured in 26 points, including five made three-pointers.
IU East also held advantages in points in the paint (30–14) and second-chance points (17–8), while forcing 18 SMWC turnovers.
The Pomeroys will look to bounce back Tuesday, Feb. 10, when they return home to host IU Kokomo for
