#PomeroyWBB Ends 2016-17 Season with Win Over RMU Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team concluded the 2016-17 season with an 89-60 victory over Robert Morris-Springfield on Friday night.

Senior Ja'Breena Gardner finished her career as a Pomeroy with a career-high 39 points, just three shy of the school single-game record. Gardner finishes her career at SMWC with 1,243 points, which places her fifth all-time in career points. Fellow senior Bria Hill also went out on a high note, with a team leading 11 rebounds. Sophomore Callan Taylor finished the game with 17 points, while junior Tara Parmer added 12 and freshman Mara Canada recorded 10.

Gardner recorded a team-high eight steals, while Parmer led SMWC in assists with five. SMWC finished the night shooting 39 percent (36-of-93) from the field.

The Pomeroys jumped out to a 21-10 lead in the first before the Eagles would come back and win the second quarter, 20-19, to give the Pomeroys a 40-30 halftime lead. The second half was all SMWC, with the Pomeroys outscoring the Eagles 30-18 in the third and 19-12 in the fourth to earn their 10th victory of the season to finish the 2016-17 campaign at 10-17 overall.
