Box Score SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team defeated Andrews University on Sunday, 108-43, to move to 9-9 on the year and 5-1 against USCAA opponents.
Senior Shelby Parmer led the Pomeroys on offense with 21 points. She was one of five players to go for double figures on Sunday afternoon, with freshman Kaley Sosnowski recording 17 points, freshman Callan Taylor and junior Ja'Breena Gardner adding 14 points and junior Kennedy Nelson chipping in 10 points. Junior Bria Hill continued her dominance on the glass, grabbing a career-high 17 rebounds, which is tied for third most in a single game by a Pomeroy. Gardner and S. Parmer also dished out five assists each.
Defensively, sophomore Tara Parmer, Sosnowski and Gardner all had five steals. The Pomeroys recorded 28 steals as a team and forced 40 turnovers as they allowed the Cardinals to shoot just 29 percent (17-of-58) from the floor.
SMWC jumped out early on the Cardinals with 31 first quarter points. SMWC then added another 33 points in the second quarter, while the defense held the Cardinals to just 19 first half points. The second half was more of the same as the Pomeroys put up 20 points in the third and 24 in the fourth, while the Cardinals mustered 24 second half points.
The Pomeroys will be back in action on January 23 when they head to Robert Morris – Peoria for a rematch from early in the year. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
