Pomeroys Score 104 in Senior Day Victory

SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College basketball team defeated Robert Morris-Peoria on Saturday, 104-53. The Pomeroys are now 13-12 overall and a perfect 12-0 against USCAA opponents.

Saturday was the second time the Pomeroys and Eagles met up this season, and the result was the same. Saturday's contest in Hamilton Arena at the Knoerle Center was senior day, and the Pomeroys didn't disappoint with five Pomeroys in double figures. Junior Grace Ziegler led the way with a game-high 19 points, while sophomore Tara Parmer and junior Shelby Parmer had 14 points each. Junior Sierra Lopez added 13 points and sophomore NaShaunda Rayford scored 10 points. Sophomore Jordyn Lloyd led SMWC on the glass, grabbing 11 rebounds, which tied her career-high. The Parmer sisters each recorded a game-high eight assists. The eight assists was a career-high for T. Parmer. Senior Alaura Mckemie led the Pomeroys in steals with six. She also added seven points, five rebounds and two assists.

The Pomeroys jumped out to an early 14-1 lead to start the game, and from there the offense was firing on all cylinders. The Eagles would cut SMWC's lead to seven, 17-10, with 14:05 to play, but from there the Pomeroys would build up a double-digit lead that would last the rest of the game.  The Pomeroys went into halftime up 59-32.

The second half was more of the same with T. Parmer leading the way with nine second half points. The key to Saturday's contest was turnovers. The Pomeroys won the turnover battle 37-13, which led to 47 points for SMWC. The Pomeroys finished the game shooting 42 percent (42-of-100) from the field and 32 percent (17-of-53) from beyond-the-arc. Saturday's game was the sixth time this season that the Pomeroys had scored at least 100 points.

SMWC will now head to the USCAA DI Women's Basketball National Tournament in Uniontown, Pa. SMWC's opening round game on March 4 will pin the Pomeroys against Berea in the three six matchup. The Pomeroys earned the six-seed in the USCAA National Tournament, which takes the top eight teams in USCAA DI women's basketball.
