SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College basketball team defeated Robert Morris-Springfield on Wednesday night, 89-69, in Springfield, Ill. The Pomeroys are now 12-12 on the year and a perfect 10-0 against USCAA opponents.

Junior Shelby Parmer led five Pomeroys in double figures with 21 points. Sophomore JaBreena Gardner scored 16 points, while junior Grace Ziegler and sophomore NaShaunda Rayford each added 14 points. Sophomore Tara Parmer finished the game with 13 points. S. Parmer and Rayford led the Pomeroys in assists with six and five, respectively. Freshman Jordyn Lloyd led SMWC on the glass with seven rebounds. Gardner, Rayford and S. Parmer each recorded four steals with the Pomeroys tallying 19 steals as a team.

The Pomeroys took a 53-31 lead into halftime, which allowed the Pomeroys to coast to victory in the second half even though the Eagles outscored SMWC, 38-36, in the final 20 minutes. The Pomeroys slowed down in the second half and finished the game shooting 40 percent (33-of-83) from the field, 38 percent (19-of-50) from beyond-the-arc and 33 percent (4-of-12) from the free throw line. The Pomeroys held the Eagles to 38 percent (26-of-69) shooting from the field and 30 percent (6-of-20) from three-point range.

The Pomeroys will be back in action on Saturday as they close out the 2014-15 regular season against Robert Morris-Peoria. Saturday's game will be senior day in Hamilton Arena at the Knoerle Center.
