Box Score SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team defeated Robert Morris – Peoria, 112-73, on Wednesday to improve to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in USCAA play.
Offensively, junior Ja'Breena Gardner led SMWC with 21 points, while freshman Kristen Nestor added 18. Also going for double digits was senior Grace Ziegler and freshman Callan Taylor with 17 each. Sophomore Tara Parmer led SMWC on the glass with seven rebounds, while junior Na-Shaunda Rayford dished out a game-high five assists. Defensively, the Pomeroys recorded 32 steals and forced 53 turnovers. Gardner recorded a game-high nine steals, while Rayford grabbed six.
The Pomeroys found themselves down 20-4 with 3:53 to play in the first quarter. SMWC finished the first trailing 27-14, but the deficit wouldn't last long. Five points from Gardner and six from Nestor helped pull the Pomeroys within two, 29-27, just two minutes into the second. Then a three-pointer by Taylor gave SMWC the lead, and they never looked back as they took a 60-37 lead into the break.
The third and fourth quarters saw SMWC continue to extend their lead and ultimately grab their fourth straight win, 112-73. Nestor, Ziegler and Gardner all had big second halves with 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Pomeroys will be back in action on December 12 when they host Brescia in a rematch from the beginning of the season. The Pomeroys lost the first meeting, but will look to get revenge at 2 p.m. on the 12th in the Knoerle Center.
