Box Score BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. - The eighth-ranked Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College basketball team defeated USCAA Division II Andrews University, on Saturday in Berrien Springs, Mich. The Pomeroys now sit at 9-9 on the year and 8-0 against USCAA opponents after downing the Cardinals, 82-42. SMWC's 40 point victory moves SMWC's win streak to six games.
Junior Grace Ziegler led the Pomeroys with her first double-double of the season, recording 21 points and a season-high 10 rebounds. Freshman Tara Parmer scored a career-high 17 points, while sophomore JaBreena Gardner recorded 13 points. Rounding off the scoring for SMWC was junior Shelby Parmer with 10 points. Junior Sierra Lopez performed well on the glass for the Pomeroys, grabbing nine rebounds. Lopez also tied here season-high for blocks with three.
Defensively, S. Parmer and senior Alaura McKemie each recorded a game-high six steals. The Pomeroys recorded 29 steals as a team and forced the Cardinals to turn the ball over 41 times. The Pomeroys did a good job of protecting the ball on Saturday night, committing a season-low eight turnovers. Saturday's game also marked the 13th time this season that SMWC has scored at least 80 points and the eighth time this season that Pomeroys have won by 10 plus points.
The Pomeroys will be back in action on Sunday, when they face USCAA Division I #5 Silver Lake on the campus of Andrews University.
