Box Score SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College basketball team defeated Robert Morris-Springfield on Tuesday, 105-44. With the victory, SMWC now sits at 5-9 overall and 4-0 against USCAA opponents.
The Pomeroys had five players score double figures, and five season-highs were set. The first season-high of the night was SMWC's 105 points, which was the most that the first ranked offense in the USCAA had scored all year. Junior Shelby Parmer led the Pomeroys with a season-high 29 points, while freshman Tara Parmer led SMWC in rebounds with a season-high nine boards. T. Parmer also recorded a season-high six assists. Junior Grace Ziegler scored 12 points, while T. Parmer and sophomores NaShaunda Rayford and JaBreena Gardner all scored 11 points. Rayford led the team in assists with a season-high seven. Defensively, Rayford recorded a team-high five steals, while junior Sierra Lopez recorded two blocks.
The Eagles held a very short 4-2 lead with 18:36 on the clock, but quickly the Pomeroys put an end to that as they took the lead, 5-4, at 18:31 and never looked back. The Pomeroys shot 49 percent (21-of-43) from the field and 48 percent (19-of-40) from 3-point range in the first half. Before the break, SMWC led by as many as 31 points with 46 seconds to play and then went into the locker room up 57-28.
It was more of the same in the second half, as the Pomeroys finished out the game shooting 48 percent (40-of-83) from the field and 42 percent (16-of-38) from 3-point range. The Pomeroys maintained a healthy double-digit lead and led by as many as 63 points with 4:02 on the clock.
The Pomeroys dominated the paint, outscoring the Eagles 44-18. SMWC's defense also forced the Eagles to turn the ball over 35 times, which led to 33 Pomeroy Points.
The Pomeroys will back in action on Friday, when they head to Newport News, Va., for the Apprentice MLK Classic. The Pomeroys will play three games during the MLK Classic, all of which will feature LIVE stats via the Pomeroys LIVE Portal.
