Box Score PEORIA, Ill. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team snapped its three game losing streak with a 94-77 win over Robert Morris University-Peoria, on Saturday.
Five Pomeroys scored double figures vs. the Eagles, with junior Desiree Irizarry leading the way with a season-high 22 points. Senior Alaura McKemie notched 13 points, while junior Shelby Parmer and freshman Tara Parmer both scored 12 points. Sophomore Mikayla Kinneer scored 10 points. S.Parmer led the Pomeroys in assists with eight.
Defensively, McKemie recorded seven steals to go with her 13 points, while S. Parmer nearly recorded a triple-double with a team-high eight steals to go with her 12 points and eight assists. T. Parmer recorded six steals, while sophomore Kennedy Nelson recorded two blocks. Leading SMWC on the glass was sophomore Stephanie Moore with seven rebounds.
McKemie, T. Parmer, and Moore each scored a 3-pointer to start the game, as the Pomeroys jumped out to an early 9-0 lead. The Eagles answered as they went on a 10-0 run to take a 10-9 lead with 16:35 on the clock. However, it would be the Eagles last lead of the game. The Eagles stayed close to the Pomeroys for the first 16 minutes, then, SMWC gained a double-digit lead with 3:42 on the clock that would hold until halftime. The Pomeroys went into the break leading the Eagles 49-34 for their largest lead of the half.
The Pomeroys started off the second half by building their lead, as they led by 19 with 17:19 on the clock. The Pomeroys maintained their double-digit lead until 13:20, when an Eagles' free throw cut SMWC's lead down to nine. The Eagles refused to go away in the second half as they remained within single-digits of the Pomeroys for nearly seven minutes and were within seven points of SMWC with seven minutes on the clock. A layup by S. Parmer with 6:09 on the clock gave SMWC an 11 point lead, 82-71, and SMWC road out the rest of the game ahead by double-digits.
The Pomeroys finished the game shooting 40 percent (33-of-82) from the floor, 32 percent (12-of-38) from 3-point range and 73 percent (16-of-22) from the free throw line. In comparison, the Eagles shot 49 percent (32-of-65), 20 percent (1-of-5) and 44 percent (12-of-27).
The Pomeroys will be back in action on Dec. 12 and 13 when they head to Greenville, Ill., for the Greenville Classic. The Pomeroys will face MacMurray on the 12th and Greenville on the 13th.
