LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's golf team opened play at the Midway Eagle Invitational on Monday with a third-place finish after round one at the University Club of Kentucky.
SMWC posted a team score of 349, trailing Midway (329) and Huntington (339) in the six-team field. UVA Wise (351), IU Southeast (364), and Mount Vernon Nazarene (385) rounded out the standings.
The Pomeroys were led by
Macie Shirk, who fired an 82 to finish fifth overall after the opening round. Shirk's steady play kept SMWC within striking distance heading into the final day of competition.
Renae Jaeger added an 86 to place tied for 13th, while
Bailey Barker carded a 90 to finish tied for 15th.
Brooklee Bussing and
Kristin Pagach each posted rounds of 91, tying for 18th, and Brianna Andreas rounded out the lineup with a 92.
IU Southeast's Emma Rowland leads the individual field after an opening-round 78, followed closely by Midway's Anna Simpson (79) and IU Southeast's Rachel Shaffer (80).
SMWC enters Tuesday's final round just 10 strokes back of second place and will look to climb the leaderboard in the tournament's closing round.
