LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's golf team opened play at the Midway Eagle Invitational on Monday, finishing eighth after the first round at the University Club of Kentucky.

SMWC recorded a team score of 323 in the 12-team field, with Marian holding the lead at 290, followed by Kentucky State (297) and Indiana University East (312).

The Pomeroys were led by John Amt, who carded a 77 to finish tied for 15th overall after the opening round. Amt paced the SMWC lineup on the par-72 course and positioned himself among the top 20 heading into Tuesday's final round.

Josh Michael added a 79 to finish tied for 23rd, while Nolan Allen posted an 83 to place tied for 37th. Nolan Mishler and Neal Jeffery each recorded rounds of 84, tying for 42nd, and Tomas Carvajal rounded out the lineup with an 87.

Marian's Weston Ogden, Augie Mann, and Nolan Potter share the individual lead after each fired rounds of 72.

The Pomeroys will look to move up the leaderboard in Tuesday's final round as they aim to close the gap on the teams ahead.
