TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's golf team opened play at the Great Lakes Intercollegiates on Saturday, sitting in fifth place after the first round at The Country Club of Terre Haute.
Competing on the par-71 layout, the Pomeroys posted a team score of
296 in round one, positioning themselves in the top five of a tightly contested 15-team field.
Dubuque leads the tournament with a team score of
278, followed by Aurora A (
288), Rose-Hulman (
289), and UW-Stevens Point (
293). Saint Mary-of-the-Woods sits just three shots back of fourth place entering Sunday's final round.
The Pomeroys were led by
John Amt, who carded an even-par
71 and is tied for fourth individually after round one.
Nolan Mishler posted a
74 and is tied for 20th, while
Josh Michael turned in a
75 to sit tied for 29th.
Nolan Allen rounded out the scoring four with a
76, placing him tied for 43rd.
Tomas Carvajal also competed in the lineup and recorded an
81, placing him tied for 66th overall.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods also fielded a "B" team, which posted a team score of
344 in the opening round. The B team was led by
Neal Jeffery with an
84, followed by
Adam Waters (
85),
Carter Batin (
87), and
Matt Pearison (
88).
Jordan Booth added a
92.
The leaderboard remains tightly packed heading into the final round, with the Pomeroys well within striking distance to move up on Sunday.
