Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's volleyball continued its strong start to the season Saturday afternoon, earning a
3–1 victory at Spalding inside Columbia Gym.
The Pomeroys claimed the opening set, 25–16, dropped the second, 25–18, then responded with convincing wins in the third and fourth sets, 25–14 and 25–21, to improve to
9–1 on the season.
SMWC hit an efficient
.307 for the match, holding Spalding to
.039, while outpacing the Golden Eagles in kills (48–31), assists (44–27), aces (5–10), and blocks (9–10). The Pomeroys also controlled the tempo with consistent service pressure and strong net play.
Tyler Duranceau led the offensive attack with
14 kills, adding five digs and two blocks.
Christian Green chipped in
eight kills, while
Noah Boyett contributed
seven kills in the win.
At the service line,
Francesco Tedeschi paced SMWC with
three aces, while
Daniel Musa and
Ethan Ricketts each added one. Defensively,
Yammiel Martinez led the way with
three blocks, with
Lauvai Pine and Duranceau posting two apiece.
Ricketts directed the offense with
19 assists, supported by
Ethan Martins with
14 assists and four more from Martinez. In the back row,
Trevin Matsuba recorded a team-high
seven digs, followed by Martins with six.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods will return to action Tuesday, traveling to
Calumet College of St. Joseph for a nonconference matchup on
Feb. 10, with first serve scheduled for
6 p.m. (CT).
