MIDWAY, Ky. — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College closed its 2026 regular season in dominant fashion Saturday afternoon, sweeping Midway University 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-21) in River States Conference action inside Marshall Gymnasium.
With the win, SMWC improves to 27-8 overall and 9-7 in conference play, entering the postseason with momentum after a balanced performance on both sides of the net.
The Pomeroys controlled the match from the opening set, hitting an efficient .279 as a team while holding Midway to just a .068 hitting percentage. SMWC was especially sharp early, posting a .389 clip in the first set to take command.
Francesco Tedeschi led the offense with eight kills and added three service aces, while
Tyler Duranceau recorded seven kills and two aces.
Josh Stembridge added four kills as SMWC totaled 31 on the match.
The setting duo of
Ethan Martins and
Jacob Wisniewski directed the offense with 15 and 14 assists, respectively. Defensively,
Jeremy Lapeze led the team with seven digs, followed by Wisniewski with five and
Yammiel Martinez with four.
At the net,
Lauvai Pine posted a team-high three blocks, while
Sutton Reed and
Colton Boldt each added two as SMWC finished with a 6-3 advantage in blocks.
Midway was led by Jaden Alston and Aiden Huerta with five kills apiece, while Lincoln Anderson recorded a match-high eight digs.
SMWC closes the regular season on a three-match winning streak and now turns its attention to postseason play.
The River States Conference Tournament begins Tuesday, April 14. SMWC has earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament and will host No. 5 Cumberland (Tenn.) -- who they swept in the regular season -- in the quarterfinals. This is the first time in the history of the men's volleyball program that SMWC has hosted a River States Conference men's volleyball tournament match.
