Late Push Falls Short as Pomeroys Drop 79–71 Decision to IU Southeast

SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's basketball team came up just short Tuesday night, falling 79–71 to IU Southeast in River States Conference action inside the Knoerle Center.

SMWC held a 37–33 lead at the break after shooting efficiently in the opening half, but the Grenadiers responded with a strong second-half effort, outscoring the Pomeroys 46–34 to secure the road win.

Malachi Pearson led SMWC with a team-high 18 points, shooting 6-of-7 from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Christopher Owens added 14 points off the bench, while Taray Howell and Ellis Todd each chipped in nine points. DeYon Bell recorded a double-double with six points and a game-high 15 rebounds to anchor the Pomeroys on the glass.

IU Southeast was led by Trent Hinkle, who poured in a game-high 25 points while adding six assists and three steals. Bailey Temming contributed 16 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Grenadiers, who shot 46.0 percent from the field and went 13-of-20 from the free-throw line.

The Pomeroys won the rebounding battle 46–34 and matched IU Southeast with 15 second-chance points, but turnovers and late free throws proved to be the difference down the stretch.
