SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — Indiana University Kokomo used an efficient offensive night and timely baskets down the stretch to secure an 87–77 River States Conference victory over Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Tuesday evening inside the Jeanne Knoerle Sports and Recreation Center.
The contest featured five lead changes and was tight throughout the first half, with IU Kokomo holding a slim 42–41 advantage at the break. The visiting Cougars maintained control in the second half, shooting 50 percent from the field after intermission and building their lead to as many as 14 with just under 10 minutes remaining.
Ellis Todd led SMWC (9–10, 3–4 RSC) with a game-high 29 points on 11-of-18 shooting, including four three-pointers, while adding seven assists.
Mike Ajukwa followed with 15 points, and
Malachi Pearson chipped in 10 points for the Pomeroys.
IU Kokomo (16–3, 6–1 RSC) placed three players in double figures, led by Alonzo Clawson-Smith's 28 points. Joseph Annan Jr. added 21 points and nine rebounds, while Jake McGraw contributed 18 points. The Cougars shot 55.0 percent from the field and scored 62 points in the paint.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods finished the night shooting 45.3 percent overall and 42.1 percent from beyond the arc, but IU Kokomo's interior scoring and free-throw efficiency proved to be the difference.
The Pomeroys return to action on Saturday, January 24, when they host Kentucky Christian at 3 p.m. (ET) inside the Knoerle Center. The game will serve as
SMWC Community Day.
