WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — St. Mary-of-the-Woods College fell to undefeated and nationally ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) on Friday evening, 113–65, in non-conference men's basketball action. The Pomeroys dropped to 5–4 on the season.
SMWC opened strong and trailed by just a possession early before the Patriots (11–0) used a decisive offensive surge to pull away, taking a 49–35 lead into halftime. Cumberlands maintained its pace throughout the second half, finishing the night shooting 56.3 percent from the field and 51.9 percent from beyond the arc.
Mike Ajukwa led the Pomeroys with 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while
Taray Howell added nine points and a team-high six assists.
Ben Chestnut provided eight points off the bench, and
Jared Bonds grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
Cumberlands placed five players in double figures, paced by Andrew McConnell's 22 points.
