OWENSBORO, Ky. — Brescia (Ky.) used a strong offensive performance to hand the St. Mary-of-the-Woods College men's basketball team a 100–84 setback Tuesday evening in River States Conference action at the Owensboro Sportscenter.
The Pomeroys (6–5, 0–1 RSC) stayed within striking distance early, trailing 54–42 at halftime after shooting 44.4 percent from the field in the opening half. SMWC continued to compete in the second half but was unable to slow Brescia's efficient shooting and interior scoring late.
Ellis Todd led SMWC with a game-high 21 points, shooting 8-for-10 from the floor and connecting on three three-pointers.
Jared Bonds finished with 12 points and a game-high six assists, while
Taray Howell added 11 points.
Mike Ajukwa contributed 10 points and seven rebounds, and
Quamar Hobbs scored 11 points off the bench to lead a Pomeroy reserve group that totaled 27 points.
St. Mary-of-the-Woods outrebounded Brescia 46–43 and scored 19 second-chance points, but the Bearcats shot 50.7 percent from the field and placed five players in double figures. Jaunte Jenkins led all scorers with 30 points, while Israel Momodu added 22.
The Pomeroys return to action Friday, Dec. 19, traveling to Marian for a 7 p.m. (ET) tipoff.
