GARY, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's basketball team traded buckets in a high-tempo contest on Friday afternoon but came up short in a 104–94 loss to IU Northwest inside the Savannah Center.
Sophomore guard
Taray Howell continued his strong early-season form, posting a team-high
24 points on 7-of-18 shooting, including three three-pointers and a perfect 7-for-7 performance from the free-throw line. Senior
Ellis Todd followed closely with
22 points, going 8-for-14 from the floor and 4-for-6 at the stripe, while junior
Christopher Owens added
15 points and eight rebounds to anchor the interior.
Freshman
Ikechi Ajukwa chipped in
nine points, and
Malachi Pearson and
DeYon Bell provided
seven points each off the bench. The Pomeroys shot
45.2% from the field, recording
30 points in the paint and
20 second-chance points in the fast-paced matchup.
The RedHawks (1–1) shot
56.7% from the field and
40% from beyond the arc, led by
Caleb Jenkins (22 points) and
Ladaion Barnes (21 points). IU Northwest pulled away late after a back-and-forth first half that featured multiple lead changes.
