QUINCY, Ill. – Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College sprint football continued its undefeated season Friday evening with a decisive 47–20 victory over Quincy University at QU Stadium. The Pomeroys stormed out to a 23–0 first-quarter lead and never looked back, moving to 5-0 overall and in the Midwest Sprint Football League. SMWC has never lost a true road game in program history, improving to a perfect 14-0 over the course of the four-year history of the program.
Early Momentum
The Pomeroys set the tone with three first-quarter touchdowns and a safety.
Xander Hunt opened the scoring with a 5-yard rushing touchdown, followed by a
Derron Hazzard strike to
Kyle Vernelson from five yards out.
Jeremiah Tosky capped the quarter with a 15-yard touchdown pass to
Dameon Miller, and the defense forced a safety to push the margin to 23–0.
Balanced Offense
Tosky led the passing game with 147 yards and three touchdown passes, connecting with Miller,
Corbyn Cleveland (8 yards), and
Jaeden King (22 yards). Hazzard added a touchdown pass and rushed for another, finishing with 73 yards on seven carries, including a 60-yard burst.
SMWC's ground game was dominant, piling up 286 net rushing yards at 7.7 yards per carry.
Patrick Perea highlighted the attack with 93 yards on just five carries, including a 49-yard run.
Zy'Eiar White contributed 61 yards, while Hunt added a short-yardage score.
In the air, Miller caught three passes for 43 yards and a touchdown, while Vernelson, Cleveland, and King each found the end zone.
Defensive Impact
The Pomeroy defense limited Quincy to just 103 rushing yards on 34 attempts and tallied five sacks.
Adonimi Parker recorded a team-high 12 tackles (1.5 sacks, 3.0 TFL), while
Brodi Smith added two sacks.
Jaidyn Hoole contributed six stops, including 1.5 tackles for loss.
Special Teams
Kicker
Connor Wardlaw was perfect on the night, hitting all six PATs and a 26-yard field goal.
Jason Rucker II provided a spark with a 34-yard kickoff return, while the coverage unit kept Quincy in check.
Quincy's Effort
The Hawks (0-5) broke through late in the second quarter with a 33-yard touchdown pass from
Deuce Allaway to
Nolan Gooding, and scored twice more in the fourth, including a 7-yard run from
Ethen Harrison.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods will return to Jay Barrett Field for its final home game of the regular season on
Saturday, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. (ET) against Bellarmine.
