SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College equestrian team brought home the Zone 7 Region 1 Championship and six individuals qualified for the Zone 7 Finals later this month at the Mari Hulman George School of Equine Studies on Sunday.

SMWC claimed six of the possible 16 spots for Regional 1 at the Zone 7 Finals that will take place March 29-30 at Roscoe, Illinois.  The High Point Team and High Point Rider honors for Hunt Seat in Zone 7 Region 1 were also finalized and announced on Sunday.  SMWC claimed High Point Team and Freshmen Jaden Perry was named High Point Rider for the 2023-2024 season.  Both Jaden and the team will move forward to compete at zones.

Open Fences: Jaden Perry – Champion
Open Flat: Jaden Perry – Reserve Champion, Nina Eglund – 4th
Intermediate Fences: Katie Wendorf – 4th
Intermediate Flat: Madisyn Courtney – Champion, Katie Wendorf – 4th
Limit Fences: Hope Gillaspie – Qualifier, Annabelle Luckcuck – Qualifier
Limit Flat: Halle Minton – Qualifier
Novice Flat: Madi Raiser – Champion, Kyley Pelfrey – Reserve Champion, Abby Drake – Qualifier, Megan Manlief – Qualifier
Introductory: Harmony Deal – Champion
 
This marks the third time in program history that SMWC has won the regional title in both the Western and Hunt Seat disciplines in the same year.  Top finishers at the IHSA Zone Finals will compete at the IHSA Nationals in North Carolina this May.
