Box Score The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods men's volleyball team welcomed Midway University for a non-conference home match. The Pomeroys would defeat the Eagles in three sets (25-23, 25-14, 26-24).
Mark Zmojdzin led the team with 18 kills.
Julian Green,
Christian Green, and
Connor Orrock each had three kills, while
Anioma Njokanma had two and
Yammiel Martinez had one.
Orrock had 21 of the team's 28 total assists.
"It feels good being able to have that connection with my hitters," Orrock said, "Have them being able to work with what I give them and execute to win a game feels great."
Simon Vega, Orrock and Martinez all had three service aces. C. Green and Martinez each had three blocks.
"We have been a terrible Monday practicing team all season and we really got after them and challenged them," Head Coach Ian Harris said, "They responded and came out with great energy tonight. They came out and played great against a very veteran heavy team. I'm so proud of these guys and we have to build off it."
The Pomeroys have had consistency issues all season long, but they were able to show a lot of growth tonight in the three set victory.
"This team loves each other; they play super hard," said Coach Harris, "We are getting more consistent and I'm so proud of them and every win is a big win and what they showed tonight was growth and maturity."
The Pomeroys earned their second win on the season but made history tonight as they earned the program's first home win.
"It feels really good," said Orrock on making history, "All the work everyone has put in, all the time we spend in the gym and outside the gym, makes it feel amazing."
The Pomeroys return to action this weekend as they will travel to Mount Vernon Nazarene to them on Friday at 7:00 pm and Saturday at 3:00 pm.
