Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, in just four games with first-year coach Mike Hunter, has already matched last season's win total of three.
The 3-1 Pomeroys begin meaningful River States Conference games Saturday at IU East. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
IU East (2-3, 0-1 RSC) defeated SMWC 113-64 last season in the only meeting between the two teams.
The Pomeroys are led by Tarik Dixon (20 ppg), J.R. Lumsden (16.5 ppg) and Keith Germain (14 ppg).
Hunter hopes to have his team prepared to compete for the first RSC victory in SMWC men's basketball history.
"IU East has historically been one of the top teams in the RSC. Coach Hester is a good coach with a lot of wins," Hunter said. "His teams are always tough and gritty."
