SMWC Scoring Goals
How It Happened
1st Half: The first half featured plenty of strong defensive efforts from both sides, with the Pomeroys looking especially sharp to start the season. It's clear that SMWC's defense is perhaps one of their stronger areas as they made a number of impressive defensive saves throughout. Freshman Juan Parra netted his first career goal in the 44' to put the Pomeroys ahead 1-0 late in the 1st half.
2nd Half: SMWC came out of the half with the same energy, not resting for a second. Oakland City's Josue Dubon pushed the Pomeroys to their limit with a relentless attack but just missing the mark every time. In the 66' Jose Parra made a stunning move to shake a defender and cross the ball to Marcus Massop. Massop's light touch over to Juan Parra gave him an easy view to finish and score his 2nd goal of the game. SMWC would hang on through the rest of the half with no other real threats coming from the Mighty Oak side and record their first win of the season.
Senior Day
After the match, seniors Elias Ramsey and Keegan Prescott were honored in their final season. Both being escorted by Bill and Lisa Little, these two men were the foundation of the inaugural men's soccer team and have made a strong and lasting impact on our department.

On being back in the goal for the Pomeroys...
"Honestly it felt really good. Being out for a year, you're not used to competing at such a high level so it's forcing you to come back to this level, it's forcing you to make better plays, better passes. You're having to actually play a lot more physical."
Quote | #7 Juan Parra
On scoring twice in his first collegiate match and reuniting with his brother...
"It felt good. In my first game, I scored two goals and that feels really good. Not only that but I feel like we played good as a team. We have good players, we have to keep working hard, but it feels good to play with my brother again, we played back in high school. We know each other, we know how we play so we know where we're going to be and the goal is Nationals. The goal is always the highest and this year is gonna be the same, we just have to keep working towards that goal."
Quote | #4 Elias Ramsey
On his time with the program and the senior day festivities...
"I mean especially with what's going on right now this could be our last game so you play soccer your whole life and the best thing you can do is meet all the guys, meet your best friends, and share what you do every day with them. Winning our first game on this field, right here in our hometown is a great feeling. I don't know anything better than guys that you love and the closest boys to you and just sharing a moment with them."

On his time with the program and the senior day festivities...
"It's a great thing starting off 1-0. It's crazy though, I blink and I'm already a senior. I'm glad I could do it with this guy, my best friend since three years old. I'm glad and it couldn't have been any better, couldn't have been any better."
