SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's soccer team closed out the regular season on Saturday with a
4–0 loss to undefeated West Virginia Tech at the SMWC Soccer Field.
WVU Tech (15–0–2, 10–0–0 RSC) scored three times in the opening 18 minutes to take control early.
Keishon Clarke,
Leny Duperray, and
Julen Recalde each tallied first-half goals, while
Elias Petrini added a late score in the 90th minute assisted by
Gonzalo Sabeh.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods (7–10–1, 5–3–1 RSC) produced six total shots, including two on goal, and earned a pair of first-half corner kicks. The Pomeroys' goalkeeper unit combined for
14 saves against one of the conference's most efficient offenses.
WVU Tech held a 30–6 advantage in total shots and a 9–2 margin in corner kicks, remaining unbeaten through River States Conference play.
Despite the loss, the Pomeroys secured a berth in the
River States Conference Tournament and will host a
quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday, November 5, at 1:00 p.m. (ET) against
either Midway or Shawnee State at the SMWC Soccer Field.
