Pomeroys Explode For 14 Hits In Game 1 Rout, Split RSC Doubleheader With Kentucky Christian

SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team powered its way to a dominant Game 1 victory before falling in Game 2 to split a River States Conference doubleheader with Kentucky Christian University on Thursday at the SMWC Softball Field.

The Pomeroys (10-22) opened the day with an emphatic 11-3 win, collecting 14 hits and producing runs throughout the lineup.

Raegan Manhart paced the offense with two hits, two RBIs and a walk, while Bailey Duke added three hits and two RBIs, including a double. Caeden Bennett also recorded three hits, and Jenna Baker contributed a two-RBI effort.

Jasmine Kinzer (6-9) earned the complete-game win in the circle, allowing three runs on 11 hits while striking out three. She also added two RBIs at the plate to help her own cause.

SMWC used consistent offensive pressure to pull away, scoring in multiple innings to secure the run-rule shortened victory.

Kentucky Christian was led by home runs from Ariana Adams and Rebecca Engler but could not match the Pomeroys' offensive output in the opener.

In Game 2, Kentucky Christian (16-18) responded with a 15-3 victory, using a nine-run fourth inning to break the game open.

The Knights struck early and then erupted in the fourth, stringing together extra-base hits and timely at-bats to extend their lead. Madison Penrod led the offensive surge, going 3-for-3 with five RBIs, including a three-run home run. Ariana Adams added three hits and two RBIs, while Rebecca Engler drove in two runs.

Caeden Bennett provided a highlight for SMWC with a solo home run, while Hannah Boardman recorded two hits and Abbi Henderson added two hits and an RBI.
Lanna Martinez (4-10) took the loss for the Pomeroys, while Sara Bays (5-5) earned the complete-game win for Kentucky Christian.
