NEW ALBANY, Ind. — Indiana University Southeast completed a doubleheader sweep of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in River States Conference play on Monday, earning 10-2 and 3-1 victories.
In game one, Indiana Southeast (15-13) used an early surge and a five-run fourth inning to pull away for a 10-2 win in five innings. The Grenadiers scored three runs in the first and added insurance throughout, while the Pomeroys (7-20) plated two runs in the fifth.
Caeden Bennett led SMWC offensively with two hits, including a double, while
Kyar McVey also recorded two hits.
Jenna Baker drove in a run as part of the fifth-inning push.
In game two, SMWC battled in a tighter contest before Indiana Southeast broke through late for a 3-1 victory. The Pomeroys struck first in the second inning when
Rayven Wilson delivered an RBI single.
The game remained 1-0 until the sixth inning, when the Grenadiers capitalized on key opportunities. Kaitlyn Leister delivered the decisive blow with a two-run single as part of a three-run frame.
Lanna Martinez turned in a strong effort in the circle for SMWC, tossing a complete game while allowing three runs (two earned) over six innings. Offensively,
Jazlynn Ward and
Carley Werremeyer each recorded two hits as the Pomeroys finished with seven.
