SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. —
Bailey Duke powered Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College at the plate Tuesday evening, blasting two home runs and driving in three runs to lead the Pomeroys to a 4-2 victory over Indiana University Southeast in River States Conference action at the SMWC Softball Field.
Duke's big day fueled the offense as Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (12-24) collected seven hits and played error-free defense to secure the win in the nightcap of the doubleheader.
The Pomeroys struck first in the opening inning when
Caeden Bennett lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing home
Kyar McVey for a 1-0 lead.
SMWC extended the advantage in the fourth inning behind Duke's first home run of the game, a two-run shot that scored Bennett and pushed the lead to 3-0.
Indiana Southeast (20-17) responded in the sixth inning with a pair of RBI singles to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Duke answered immediately in the bottom half with her second home run of the game, a solo blast that provided an insurance run and a 4-2 cushion.
Jasmine Kinzer (7-10) earned the complete-game victory in the circle, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out two across seven innings of work.
Offensively, Duke finished 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs, while Bennett added a double and an RBI.
Abbi Henderson chipped in with two hits as part of the Pomeroys' balanced attack.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College dropped the opening game of the doubleheader, 19-0, before bouncing back with the Game 2 victory.
SMWC returns to action on the road this weekend with a River States Conference swing beginning Friday, April 17, at the University of Rio Grande (Ohio). First pitch for the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m. ET, followed by a 4 p.m. ET start. The Pomeroys will then travel to Shawnee State University (Ohio) for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 18, beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
