OAKLAND CITY, Ind. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team dropped both games of a River States Conference doubleheader at Oakland City on Friday, falling 10-3 in game one and 10-2 in a five-inning game two.
Oakland City (25-11) set the tone early in the opener with a five-run first inning and never trailed.
Hannah Boardman provided the highlight for the Pomeroys (7-19), going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, while
Caeden Bennett added two hits.
In game two, SMWC battled back to within one run twice before the Mighty Oaks broke things open with a five-run fourth inning, capped by a grand slam from Jordan Bufford.
Kyar McVey led the Pomeroys with two hits in game two, while
Jenna Baker and
Kaylyn Wheeler each recorded an RBI.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College totaled 13 hits across the two games but was unable to overcome Oakland City's 23 runs on 24 hits.
The Pomeroys return to action Monday, April 6, traveling to New Albany, Indiana for a River States Conference doubleheader against Indiana University Southeast.
