ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College dropped a River States Conference contest to No. 5 Campbellsville University (Ky.), 3-0, on Friday evening at the Jeanne Knoerle Sports and Recreation Center.
Campbellsville (22-1, 10-1 RSC) claimed the match in straight sets, 25-16, 25-23, 25-19, while Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (24-5, 6-4 RSC) battled throughout, including a tightly contested second set.
The Pomeroys found their rhythm late in the second frame, keeping pace with the nationally ranked Tigers before falling 25-23. SMWC continued to compete in the third set, but Campbellsville's efficiency proved to be the difference.
As a team, Campbellsville hit .292 for the match, compared to .158 for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
Tyler Duranceau led the Pomeroys offensively with 12 kills and added 12 digs for a double-double performance.
Bentley Meyer contributed nine kills, while
Noah Boyett chipped in three kills and an ace.
At the net,
Yammiel Martinez anchored the defense with six blocks, and
Christian Green added two blocks. Setter
Ethan Ricketts dished out 20 assists, while also recording five digs, and
Ethan Martins added six assists.
Defensively, SMWC was paced by Duranceau's 12 digs, with
Jeremy Lapeze adding six.
Campbellsville was led by Ayoube Hamadache with 15 kills, while Savvas Christou and Denzel Madrigal added nine and eight kills, respectively.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College will return to action Saturday, March 28, hosting No. 14 Georgetown College (Ky.) at 3 p.m. inside the Knoerle Center. Live stats and streaming will be available on SMWCAthletics.com.
