SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – Georgetown College handed Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College a straight-set loss Saturday morning, defeating the Pomeroys 25-23, 25-20, 25-22 in River States Conference men's volleyball action at the Knoerle Center.
SMWC (24-6, 6-5 RSC) battled throughout the match, opening with a tightly contested first set that featured 14 kills and a .214 hitting percentage. Georgetown (14-7, 9-2 RSC) responded with efficient offense, hitting .278 in the opening frame before pulling away late for the two-point win.
The Tigers gained momentum in the second set, turning in their strongest offensive performance of the match with a .415 hitting percentage. Despite 14 kills from the Pomeroys and a solid .314 clip, Georgetown's balanced attack proved too much as it built a two-set advantage.
In the third, SMWC remained within striking distance, but Georgetown closed the door late behind consistent hitting and defensive play to complete the sweep.
Bentley Meyer led the Pomeroys with 10 kills, while
Tyler Duranceau added nine and
Christian Green contributed eight.
Ethan Martins paced the offense with 20 assists, followed by 15 from
Ethan Ricketts. Defensively,
Jeremy Lapeze anchored the back row with a match-high 15 digs.
Yammiel Martinez led SMWC at the net with three blocks, while
Noah Boyett recorded two service aces.
As a team, Georgetown hit .333 for the match compared to .211 for the Pomeroys, using efficient offense and timely runs to secure the conference victory.
