SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's volleyball delivered a dominant straight-set victory over Midway University (Ky.) on Friday night at the Jeanne Knoerle Sports and Recreation Center, winning 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-15) to improve to 24-4 overall and 6-3 in River States Conference play.
The Pomeroys controlled the match from start to finish, pulling away late in the first two sets before turning in their most efficient performance in the third. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College hit .517 in the final frame, recording 16 kills with just one error to seal the sweep.
SMWC finished the match with 45 kills and a .206 hitting percentage, outpacing Midway's .028 clip. The Pomeroys also held advantages in assists (41-16), digs (35-25), and total points (54-28).
Francesco Tedeschi led the attack with nine kills, while
Daniel Musa added seven kills, eight digs, two blocks, and an ace in a strong all-around effort.
Marco Palomares also contributed seven kills for the Pomeroys.
At setter,
Jacob Wisniewski paced the offense with 22 assists, while
Ethan Martins added 16 assists to keep the attack balanced and effective.
Defensively,
Jeremy Lapeze led the way with 10 digs, while Musa (8) and
Sutton Reed (7) helped anchor the back row. At the net,
Lauvai Pine recorded a team-high three blocks.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College closed strong in the third set, using a late run and efficient hitting to secure the sweep in front of a home crowd of 198.
