FRANKLIN, Ind. – The
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's volleyball team earned a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday evening, defeating Franklin College in both matches at the Spurlock Center. The
Pomeroys (18-4) won the opening match
3-1 (25-12, 25-17, 20-25, 25-17) before completing the sweep with another
3-1 victory (25-20, 24-26, 25-18, 25-20) in the nightcap.
Game 1
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods opened the evening with a dominant offensive performance, finishing with
54 kills and a .410 hitting percentage while holding Franklin to
37 kills and a .202 clip.
The Pomeroys set the tone early, hitting
.417 in the opening set and limiting Franklin to just
.074 in a decisive
25-12 win. SMWC continued its efficient attack in the second set, recording
15 kills while hitting .478 to build a
2-0 match lead.
Franklin responded in the third set with its best offensive frame of the match, hitting
.367 to take the set
25-20 and extend the match.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods answered in the fourth set with its most efficient performance of the evening, hitting
.600 with 16 kills and just one error to secure the
25-17 victory.
Three Pomeroys finished in double figures in kills.
Tyler Duranceau and
Yammiel Martinez each recorded
12 kills, while
Francesco Tedeschi added
10 and led the team with
three blocks.
Setter
Ethan Ricketts directed the offense with
39 assists, while
Bentley Meyer led the defense with
nine digs. Duranceau added
eight digs, and
Trevin Matsuba contributed
six.
Game 2
The Pomeroys completed the sweep with another strong offensive effort, totaling
55 kills while hitting .278.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods took the opening set
25-20 behind a balanced attack before Franklin narrowly claimed the second set
26-24 to even the match.
SMWC regained control in the third set, holding Franklin to a
.083 hitting percentage while posting
14 kills to earn a
25-18 win. The Pomeroys closed the match in the fourth set
25-20 to secure the doubleheader sweep.
Christian Green led the attack with
12 kills, followed by
Marco Palomares with
11 and
Tyler Duranceau with
10.
Ethan Martins paced the offense with
24 assists, while
Jacob Wisniewski added
15. Defensively,
Jeremy Lapeze led the Pomeroys with
13 digs, while Wisniewski recorded
seven and
Daniel Musa added
six.
Musa also led the team at the net with
four blocks, while
Emmanuel Rubio added
three.
With the wins, the Pomeroys continued their strong season while controlling both matches statistically, including advantages in kills, assists, digs, and blocks in the nightcap.
