Pomeroys Sweep Kentucky State At Spalding Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College posted a straight-sets victory over Kentucky State University on Saturday afternoon, earning a 25-18, 25-19, 25-21 win inside Columbia Gym at the Spalding Invitational.

The Pomeroys (8-1) were efficient from start to finish, hitting .361 as a team while holding Kentucky State (3-5) to a .169 attack percentage. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods totaled 36 kills and controlled the net with seven blocks in the sweep.

SMWC opened the match with an 11-kill first set and never trailed, then increased its offensive output in the second frame with 14 kills on a .400 clip to take a 2–0 lead. The third set saw Kentucky State push back late, but the Pomeroys stayed composed to close out the match.

Tyler Duranceau led the Pomeroys with eight kills while also contributing two aces, a block, and four digs. Yammiel Martinez added six kills and an ace, and Bentley Meyer chipped in five kills and an ace. Daniel Musa anchored the net with four blocks and added two assists, while Dom Smith dished out a match-high 16 assists.

Jeremy Lapeze paced SMWC defensively with nine digs, as the Pomeroys out-dug the Thorobreds 28–22 and finished with a 49.0–35.0 edge in points.

For Kentucky State, Charles Ababio recorded a match-high 10 kills, while Jamir Patterson added seven. Jackson Moffitt finished with 21 assists for the Thorobreds.
