ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — Indiana University Southeast used a strong start and steady scoring across all four quarters to defeat Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, 66–34, in women's basketball action Tuesday evening inside the Knoerle Center.
IU-Southeast opened the game with a 22–1 first-quarter advantage and never trailed, holding SMWC scoreless from the field in the opening 10 minutes. The Grenadiers continued to build separation in the second and third quarters before closing the game with a 20-point fourth quarter.
SMWC found more rhythm offensively as the game progressed, outscoring IU-Southeast 10–12 in the second quarter and matching that total again in the third. The Pomeroys went a perfect 10-for-12 from the free-throw line in the final quarter and finished the night shooting 66.7 percent at the stripe.
Abigail Parker and
Talyssa Moody paced Saint Mary-of-the-Woods with nine points apiece. Moody also added six free throws, while
Samara Douglas pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
Confidence Nwachukwu and
Nadiya Figures combined for 11 rebounds off the bench.
SMWC was limited to 18.8 percent shooting from the field and 19.0 percent from three-point range for the game. The Pomeroys finished with 40 rebounds and forced 13 turnovers but were unable to overcome the early deficit.
The Pomeroys return to action Saturday, Feb. 7, when they host IU East for a 1 p.m. (ET) tip-off inside the Knoerle Center.
