Pomeroys Take Opening Set at No. 4 Campbellsville, Fall in Four on the Road

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The SMWC men's volleyball team pushed No. 4 nationally-ranked Campbellsville University early Friday night, taking the opening set before ultimately falling 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 13-25, 19-25) inside Gosser Gym.

The Pomeroys (15-2, 1-1) came out poised against the undefeated Tigers (15-0, 3-0), overcoming a tight first set by capitalizing on Campbellsville errors and steady defense. SMWC hit .000 in the opener but limited the Tigers to a negative percentage (-.067), forcing 10 attack errors to claim the 25-20 advantage.

Campbellsville responded in the second set with a more efficient offensive rhythm, hitting .267 to even the match. The Tigers then seized control in the third, posting a blistering .600 hitting percentage with 13 kills and just one error to take a commanding 2-1 lead.

In the fourth, SMWC battled to stay within striking distance, but Campbellsville's balanced attack and strong net presence proved decisive down the stretch.

Tyler Duranceau led the Pomeroys with 12 kills and added an ace, while Bentley Meyer chipped in six kills and seven digs. Francesco Tedeschi contributed four kills.

At the net, Noah Boyett and Yammiel Martinez each recorded three total blocks, with Daniel Musa adding two. Ethan Ricketts directed the offense with 24 assists, while Jeremy Lapeze anchored the back row with nine digs and two service aces.

As a team, SMWC totaled 40 kills, 38 assists and 38 digs. Campbellsville was led by Denzel Madrigal's 16 kills and 10 blocks from Fernando Rodriguez, who controlled the middle for the Tigers.

The match marked the Pomeroys' first road loss of the season and their first defeat since early January.

SMWC will look to bounce back quickly as it travels to face RV Georgetown College on Saturday, February 28 at noon (ET).
