Green Leads Pomeroys Past Georgetown in Five-Set Road Thriller

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Receiving votes in the latest NAIA Men's Volleyball Coaches' Poll, the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's volleyball team earned a marquee River States Conference road victory Saturday afternoon, defeating fellow RV program Georgetown College in five sets, 24-26, 25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 15-8, inside Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.

With the win, the Pomeroys improve to 16-2 overall and 2-1 in RSC play. Georgetown falls to 4-6 overall and 2-1 in conference action.

Christian Green paced the Pomeroys offensively with a team-high 15 kills, providing steady production throughout the afternoon as SMWC claimed its second conference victory of the season. Daniel Musa and Bentley Meyer each added 10 kills, while combining for eight total blocks to anchor the net defensively.

The match was tightly contested from the outset. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods hit an impressive .394 in the opening set but fell 26-24. The Pomeroys responded by taking sets two and three behind improved defensive pressure and timely serving, before Georgetown forced a decisive fifth set with a dominant .522 hitting performance in the fourth.

In the final frame, SMWC delivered its most efficient stretch of the match. The Pomeroys recorded nine kills on 13 attempts without an error, hitting .692 in the set to pull away for a 15-8 victory. The defensive unit held Georgetown to a .235 hitting percentage in the fifth to seal the road triumph.

Ethan Martins dished out 25 assists, while Ethan Ricketts added 20 to guide a balanced offensive attack that finished with 56 kills on a .264 hitting percentage. Jeremy Lapeze contributed four service aces and led the team with 10 digs. Musa added nine digs to complement his all-around performance at the net.

SMWC totaled 12 team blocks and 50 digs in the match, edging Georgetown in key defensive categories during critical stretches.

Georgetown was led by Kristjan Unt's match-high 21 kills, while Adam Szewinski added 13 kills and six blocks.

The victory marks another strong performance for the Pomeroys as both programs continue to receive national recognition in the NAIA polls.
