Pomeroys Drop Season-Opening Doubleheader at Blue Mountain Christian

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team opened the 2026 campaign Friday with a pair of road losses to Blue Mountain Christian University at the BMCU Sportsplex, falling 7-1 in game one and 8-0 in game two.

Blue Mountain Christian improved to 13-0 on the season, while the Pomeroys move to 0-2.

Game One – Blue Mountain Christian 7, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods 1
The Toppers struck quickly in the opener, plating two runs in the first inning behind an RBI triple from M. Macri and a run-scoring groundout by K. Camp. Blue Mountain Christian added a sacrifice fly in the second and continued to build its lead with single runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods broke through in the seventh inning when Jasmine Kinzer scored on an RBI double by Lanna Martinez to avoid the shutout.

Martinez led the Pomeroys offensively, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Kyar McVey, Libby Jaynes and Audrey Schau each added a hit, while Bailey Duke recorded a sacrifice bunt.

Martinez (0-1) went the distance in the circle, allowing seven runs on 10 hits over six innings. M. Montgomer (3-0) earned the complete-game win for Blue Mountain Christian.

Game Two – Blue Mountain Christian 8, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods 0
The nightcap proved challenging for the Pomeroys, as defensive miscues contributed to Blue Mountain Christian's eight runs, with four scored as unearned.

The Toppers scored twice in the first inning on a sacrifice fly and an error, then added two more unearned runs in the third. A three-run fifth inning, highlighted by a K. Camp RBI double, pushed the lead to 7-0 before Blue Mountain Christian capped the scoring with an RBI single in the sixth.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods was limited to two hits in game two, coming from Abbi Henderson and Rayven Wilson. The Pomeroys worked three walks but were unable to push a run across.

Jasmine Kinzer (0-1) took the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) in one inning of work. Maci Woerner provided 4.2 innings of relief, surrendering six runs (three earned) on five hits while striking out one. B. Langley (3-0) earned the complete-game victory for the Toppers, allowing two hits and striking out six.
