SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — Behind a double-double from
DeYon Bell, the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's basketball team pulled away in the second half for an 81-67 victory over Oakland City on Tuesday night inside the Knoerle Center.
Bell finished with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, helping the Pomeroys control the glass throughout the contest.
SMWC trailed 36-35 at halftime before erupting for 46 second-half points. The Pomeroys shot 56.7 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes and finished the game at 49.1 percent overall.
Stanley Harley led the Pomeroys with 16 points off the bench on 5-of-9 shooting, including two three-pointers.
Malachi Pearson added 10 points, while
Mike Ajukwa contributed 10.
Quamar Hobbs and
Terrance Hill each chipped in eight points.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods dominated the rebounding battle, 45-30, and turned 15 offensive boards into 26 second-chance points. The Pomeroys also outscored Oakland City 40-32 in the paint and extended their lead to as many as 21 in the second half.
The Pomeroys return home Saturday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. (ET) for their final home game of the regular season hosting IU-Columbus. Senior Day festivities will take place prior to tipoff inside the Knoerle Center.
