Balanced Attack Powers Pomeroys Past Park–Gilbert

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's volleyball team continued its unbeaten start to the 2026 season on Friday evening, sweeping Park University–Gilbert (Ariz.) in straight sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-13, inside the Jeanne Knoerle Sports and Recreation Center.

The Pomeroys (5-0) controlled the match from the opening serve, hitting .479 as a team while limiting Park–Gilbert (2-1) to a .060 attack percentage. SMWC posted 42 kills against just eight errors and finished with a decisive edge at the net, recording 11 total blocks.

Christian Green and Tyler Duranceau led the offensive charge with eight kills apiece, while Daniel Musa added six kills on the afternoon. Duranceau also sparked the service line with five aces as the Pomeroys totaled seven service aces in the three-set win.

Yammiel Martinez anchored the defense at the net, finishing with a match-high six blocks. Green added three blocks, while Lauvai Pine chipped in two. In the back row, Trevin Matsuba paced SMWC with eight digs, followed closely by Joseph Szadorski and Duranceau with seven digs each.

Ethan Ricketts dished out 22 assists to guide the Pomeroy offense, with Ethan Martins contributing 16 assists in the balanced attack.

SMWC jumped out early in each set, building commanding leads and never allowing Park–Gilbert to gain momentum. The Pomeroys closed the match by hitting .609 in the third set, putting away 16 kills with just two errors.

The Pomeroys will face Soka University of America at 12 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. matchup against Simpson University, before closing the day at 6 p.m. against Clarke University
