Pomeroys Sweep Soka to Stay Perfect at Showdown in the Woods

SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College continued its strong start to the 2026 season, earning a straight-set victory over Soka University of America, 25-17, 25-23, 25-16, inside the Jeanne Knoerle Sports and Recreation Center as part of the Showdown in the Woods.

The Pomeroys improved to 6-0 overall remaining unbeaten through the opening stretch of the season. Soka fell to 1-3.

SMWC set the tone early, pulling away in the opening set behind efficient attacking and strong serving pressure. The Pomeroys hit .207 in the first frame and never trailed, closing the set on a steady run to take a 1-0 lead.

The second set proved to be the most competitive of the night, as Soka matched SMWC point-for-point and built momentum behind a .250 hitting percentage. The Pomeroys responded down the stretch with timely kills and clean side-outs, edging out the visitors 25-23 to take a commanding two-set advantage.

SMWC closed the match in dominant fashion, hitting .533 in the final set while holding Soka to a .000 attack percentage. The Pomeroys limited errors and controlled the net to seal the sweep in front of a crowd of 100.

Bentley Meyer led SMWC with 11 kills and added three service aces and five digs. Jenu Ngialah contributed eight kills, two aces, and five digs, while Daniel Musa added six kills and a team-high three blocks. Charlie Harr and Colton Boldt chipped in defensively at the net with two blocks apiece.

Dom Smith guided the Pomeroy offense with 24 assists, directing an attack that finished with a .324 team hitting percentage for the match. Jacob Wisniewski added five assists off the bench.

The Pomeroys outpaced Soka in kills (33-27), aces (9-3), and blocks (8-0), continuing a balanced team effort on both sides of the ball.
