Elayni Stone scored a team-high 13 points to lead the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team in a 75–42 River States Conference loss to Brescia (Ky.) on Thursday night in Owensboro.
SMWC started strong, taking a 12–10 lead after the first quarter, but Brescia used a decisive run across the second and third quarters to build separation. The Bearcats outscored the Pomeroys 41–17 over those two periods to take control of the contest.
Stone finished with 13 points on 5-of-13 shooting, including two three-pointers.
Talyssa Moody added 10 points, while
Abigail Parker contributed 10 points and five rebounds.
Haley Polston pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and dished out four assists to anchor the Pomeroys on the glass.
SMWC shot 32.7 percent (17-of-52) from the field and knocked down five three-pointers, while Brescia shot 44.6 percent and received 38 points from its bench.
The Pomeroys scored 22 points in the paint and forced 20 turnovers, but Brescia's perimeter shooting and depth proved to be the difference down the stretch.
