Midway Pulls Away From Pomeroys in Road Loss

MIDWAY, Ky. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team fell 75-37 to Midway University on Saturday afternoon at Marshall Gymnasium.

Midway jumped out to an early advantage, opening the game on a 26-9 run in the first quarter and extending its lead to 40-13 by halftime. The Eagles continued to control the tempo after the break, outscoring the Pomeroys 21-9 in the third quarter to build a commanding margin.

SMWC showed its best offensive stretch in the fourth quarter, scoring 15 points over the final 10 minutes, but was unable to overcome the early deficit.

Abigail Parker led the Pomeroys with eight points to go along with four rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Talyssa Moody added six points, while Elayni Stone chipped in five points and a team-high six rebounds. Confidence Nwachukwu provided a spark off the bench with four points, eight rebounds, and three steals.

As a team, SMWC shot 26.9 percent from the field and forced 18 turnovers, recording 10 steals on the defensive end.

Midway was led by balanced scoring, as A'Lyrica Hughes and Alexis Taylor each scored nine points. The Eagles capitalized on turnovers, scoring 40 points off 39 SMWC miscues to fuel the win.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College returns to action on Tuesday, January 20, when the Pomeroys travel to IU Kokomo for a River States Conference matchup. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. (ET).
