SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. —
Talyssa Moody put on a long-range shooting clinic Tuesday night, but Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College could not hold off a late Oakland City rally as the Mighty Oaks escaped the Knoerle Center with a 64–58 River States Conference victory.
Moody was electric from beyond the arc, hitting
7-of-7 from three-point range and finishing with a team-high
21 points in 36 minutes. The sophomore guard was nearly flawless from the floor, going 7-of-9 overall as she kept the Pomeroys within striking distance all night.
SMWC (0-16, 0-5 RSC) led after the opening quarter and stayed neck-and-neck through three periods, trailing just 46–49 heading into the fourth. Oakland City (2-15, 1-4 RSC) used an 18-9 advantage in the final 10 minutes to pull away, limiting the Pomeroys to just four made field goals in the quarter.
Samara Douglas added a double-double with
eight points and 11 rebounds, while
Haley Polston chipped in
eight points, seven boards and five assists.
Abigail Parker dished out
six assists as SMWC totaled
21 assists on 22 made field goals, moving the ball effectively against the Mighty Oaks' defense.
Oakland City was led by Allyson Rideout, who scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Elise Williams added 15. The Mighty Oaks won the rebounding battle 45–42 and converted 7-of-10 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Despite the loss, SMWC shot a strong
45.0 percent from three-point range and stayed competitive throughout, with Moody's sharpshooting keeping the Pomeroys within one possession late into the game.
SMWC will look to carry that momentum on the road this weekend, traveling to Midway University for a River States Conference matchup on
Saturday, January 17 at 1 p.m. (ET).
