ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's soccer team battled on the road Sunday afternoon but fell 3–1 to Harris-Stowe State University.
The Pomeroys (0-4-1) saw the hosts strike first late in the opening half as Moenesa Mejias netted the breakthrough in the 37th minute to give Harris-Stowe (2-2-2) a 1–0 lead at halftime.
SMWC pulled level just after the break when the Hornets conceded an own goal in the 60th minute. However, the tie was short-lived. Harris-Stowe regained the advantage four minutes later on a finish from Sherasade Meghezi, who then added her second goal of the day in the 84th minute off an assist from Katharina Salomon to seal the match.
The Pomeroys were outshot 18–2, with both of their attempts landing on target. Goalkeeper play was a bright spot for SMWC, as the Pomeroys turned away six Hornet shots on frame. Harris-Stowe finished with a 10–1 advantage in corner kicks and committed six fouls to SMWC's three.
