Pomeroys Fall On The Road At Trinity Christian (Ill.)

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision on the road at Trinity Christian (Ill.) on Wednesday afternoon, as the Pomeroys slipped to 0-3 on the season.

Trinity Christian (2-0-1) struck first in the 20th minute when Rafael Torres finished off a pass from David Hernandez and Ismael Aguero to give the Trolls a 1-0 lead. The home team doubled the advantage at the 29:22 mark when Hernandez converted a penalty kick for his second goal of the year.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods battled back in the second half, breaking through in the 81st minute when sophomore forward Ivan Gelado Chavala netted his first career goal. Chavala, who entered as a substitute, led the Pomeroys with two shots on goal in 71 minutes of action.

The Trolls answered quickly, however, with Gabriel Estrella scoring in the 83rd minute off an assist from Enzo Pimentel to restore a two-goal cushion and close out the 3-1 victory.

Goalkeeper Harry Jackson tallied five saves for SMWC in a full 90 minutes of work. The Pomeroys registered nine shots overall, four on target, with Mitchell Stewart and Axel Heppling Trygg each adding efforts on frame.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods continues its early-season road stretch with a visit to Goshen (Ind.) College on Saturday, Aug. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. (ET).
