MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College volleyball team capped off a strong second day at the Blue Angel Bash with two victories on Saturday, defeating Mount Marty (S.D.) in straight sets and Michigan-Dearborn in four. With the wins, the Pomeroys improve to 4-1 on the young season.
In the morning matchup, SMWC turned in a dominant performance against Mount Marty, winning 25-22, 25-13, 25-10. The Pomeroys hit .348 as a team while limiting the Lancers to just .051.
Karla Melendez and
Masa Pesic led the offense with eight kills apiece, while
Felicia Omosebi added four kills and a match-high five blocks. Setter
Aden Britt directed the offense with 16 assists, and
Alexa Stiff made her presence felt from the service line with six aces.
Leishmarie Virella collected six digs and
Daniella Zvonar chipped in five to lead the back row.
In the afternoon, the Pomeroys carried their momentum into a 3-1 victory over Michigan-Dearborn (25-11, 21-25, 25-21, 25-17). Melendez again paced the attack with 15 kills and four aces, while
Evelyn Morales added six kills and three blocks.
Lisanel Rodriguez contributed five kills, and
Ryan Canter fueled the offense with 32 assists.
On the defensive end, Virella anchored the backcourt with 14 digs, Zvonar added eight, and Melendez chipped in six. SMWC out-hit the Wolverines .229 to .091 and tallied 16 aces to Michigan-Dearborn's five.
The Pomeroys will return to action Tuesday, August 26, when they travel to Wilberforce (Ohio) for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. (ET).
