SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College extended its winning streak to six matches with a dominant 3-0 sweep over visiting Brescia (Ky.) on Saturday (March 29). The Pomeroys secured the River States Conference victory with set scores of 25-20, 25-16, and 25-19.
With the win, SMWC improved to 22-6 overall and 6-5 in conference play, while Brescia fell to 8-9 (5-6 RSC).
SMWC controlled the match from start to finish, posting a .356 hitting percentage compared to Brescia's .070.
Bentley Meyer led the Pomeroys with 10 kills, while
Noah Boyett and
Yammiel Martinez each added nine.
Kristofers Klavins orchestrated the offense with 32 assists, while
Trevin Matsuba anchored the defense with a match-high 15 digs.
Noah Boyett led the way at the net with four total blocks.
Brescia was paced by Miguel Pereira, who recorded eight kills, and Mustafa Yildiz, who added six. Meric Akovali dished out 17 assists for the Bearcats, while Joaquin Palacios led the team with seven digs.
SMWC set the tone early in the first set, capitalizing on Brescia's errors and efficient attacking. Green opened the scoring with a kill off a set from Klavins, and an attack error from Pereira gave the Pomeroys an early lead. Brescia fought back to tie the set at 3-3 after a bad set by Klavins, but SMWC quickly regained control with a kill by Martinez and a service error by Pereira.
The Pomeroys continued to build momentum behind kills from Boyett and Szadorski, extending their lead to 9-5. Brescia attempted to stay within reach, but a series of errors, including a service miscue by Yildiz, kept the visitors from gaining ground. A key block by Boyett and an ace from Szadorski pushed SMWC's lead to 19-14, forcing a timeout from Brescia.
Despite a brief rally from the Bearcats, Meyer delivered a crucial kill to put SMWC ahead 20-16. Brescia managed to close the gap to 23-20, but two consecutive service errors sealed the set for SMWC, with Szadorski delivering the final point on a well-placed kill to clinch the 25-20 win.
SMWC dominated the second set against Brescia, showcasing an efficient attack and strong defensive play en route to a 25-16 victory.
SMWC established early control with a balanced offensive effort led by Boyett, Martinez, and Meyer. Boyett recorded multiple key kills, including a strong finish from Klavins to push SMWC ahead 5-3. Brescia struggled to find momentum, as attack errors and an imposing block from Szadorski helped extend SMWC's lead to 14-10.
A service ace from Lindner added to the momentum, forcing a Brescia timeout at 14-10. SMWC remained in control, with Martinez and Meyer delivering key kills to keep the visitors at bay. A late push by Brescia brought them within five, but a dominant closeout by Boyett sealed the 25-16 set win for SMWC.

A service ace from Klavins and a kill from Boyett put the home team up 23-18, inching them closer to set point.
A block by Boyett and Szadorski on an attack from Collitt sealed the set, giving SMWC a 25-19 win and a match victory over Brescia.
SMWC took control early, overcoming a brief push from Brescia in the opening set before pulling away late. The Pomeroys turned up the pressure in the second set, hitting .500 as they cruised to a comfortable win. In the third, SMWC closed out the sweep with a balanced offensive attack and strong net presence.
The Pomeroys are back in action on Tuesday, April 1 when they travel to Greenville (Ill.) for a non-conference match. First serve is set for 6 pm (CT).
