GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's volleyball team extended its winning streak to seven matches with a commanding 3-1 victory over Greenville University on the road Tuesday night.
The Pomeroys improved their season record to 23-6 and will return to River States Conference (RSC) play on Friday, April 4, when they travel to Campbellsville (Ky.) for a 6 p.m. (ET) matchup.
Leading the offensive charge for the Pomeroys was Tyler Duranceau, who delivered a team-high 10 kills with a .389 hitting percentage, while also contributing six digs. Lauvai Pine was highly efficient, registering six kills on just nine attempts for an impressive .667 hitting percentage, while also adding four service aces and four block assists to his stat line. Caden Harretos added seven kills and four digs to help balance the attack.
Charlie Harr and
Dom Smith each contributed four kills, with Harr posting a .500 hitting percentage and adding a solo block.
Josh Stembridge,
Ryan Banister, and
Gerardo Sanchez also made key contributions, with Sanchez leading the team in digs with seven. Setter
Michael Olak was instrumental in directing the offense, dishing out 23 assists while also recording four service aces and five total points.
SMWC dominated the match early, taking the first two sets in convincing fashion, 25-12 and 25-17, before Greenville fought back to claim the third set 25-20. The Pomeroys responded in the fourth set, sealing the match with a 25-21 victory.
